Beverley Marshall – Helping Hands Community Care

Beverley Marshall
Helping Hands Community Care Ltd – East Northumberland Branch
Advanced Apprenticeship in Health and Social Care

Beverley spent twenty nine years working as a civil servant for Her Majesty’s Revenue and Custom, starting her employment there in an administration role before progressing into various management roles in the Insolvency Unit before leaving in 2014.

Beverley took a year off to travel enjoying time spent in Bali, Gozo, Italy and Turkey. She had started work as a part-time carer with Helping Hands Community Care in 2008, taking up a full time carer post in 2015. At the age of 50, Beverley was a little dubious at first in starting her Advanced Apprenticeship in Health and Social Care but with encouragement from her line manager, Alison Dickson, decided to take the plunge, in the knowledge that it would assist her with a new role.

She moved from her carer position to Care and Support Officer with her job role focusing more on quality assurance, risk assessment and carrying out first visits for new clients. Beverley said she enjoyed it once she got stuck in, and got loads out of it. Completing gave her a huge sense of achievement and made her want to go on and do more. She impressed on course too being nominated for a ‘Learner of the Month’ award by her assessor, and winning the accolade.

“From an employer point of view Bev completing her advanced apprenticeship and enjoying the journey brings increased motivation, both to her and her work colleages. Helping Hands will benefit from increased efficiencies in processes and the capacity to adopt new methods because of Bev`s knowledge. She is keen to continue her learning with Release Potential, her enthusiasm is to be encouraged and admired.” – Alison Dickson, Helping Hands Community Care Ltd Branch Manager East Northumberland

Beverley has since progressed to L5 Diploma Leadership for Health and Social Care.
