Learner of the Month – June 2017

Talented Thomas!

Thomas E of ward B26 at Sunderland Royal Hospital was congratulated by colleagues as he received his certificate for Release Potential’s Learner of the Month.

Tom was nominated by his functional skills tutor, Joanne Symonds, for his determination and perseverance in passing his maths and English assessments. Joanne commented that “initially Tom found his functional skills particularly challenging and passing these assessments was going to be a great challenge for him”. Tom has now recently achieved his level 2 Maths and English qualifications as a result of his hard work and commitment.

Always a modest learner, Tom expressed his surprise at being presented with the award, admitting, “I can’t believe that I’m actually getting this certificate! It’s nice to be thought of, I’m really chuffed.”

When asked what achieving his qualifications meant to him, Tom went on to explain “by gaining these certificates, it opens other doors, so hopefully I can develop further”.

Many congratulations to Tom for achieving his functional skills qualifications and for winning this month’s award. We’re sure the right ‘doors’ will open for Tom due to the commitment, hard work and effort that Tom applies to his own development.
