Trudy took time out of employment in 1998 to care for her children, Before taking time out of employment, she had always worked in retail, which she enjoyed however being unemployed for 20 years had knocked her confidence and this has impacted on interacting with others.
Trudy heard about the Returneeship course at the Byker job centre when she was waiting to see her work coach. She was approached by Paul, a tutor for Release Potential promoting the course that day. After explaining what the course entailed and sharing positive stories from past learners who have gained employment. He asked if I would be interested in the course Trudy was very interested in the course because she was keen for help to get her confidence back and learn skills to get back into employment. On the first day of the course she was really nervous but got stuck right in with taking part in the photography and mingling with others which helped her relax, she thoroughly enjoyed the photography & learnt a whole new perspective on this. Trudy also really enjoyed the classroom element of the course learning about IT and Customer Service as this really helped her with filling out online application forms and doing customer service assessments.
The course has helped Trudy gain back confidence and give her the push to mix with others instead of standing in the background being quiet. The staff were “Fantastic and so helpful”, They gave me all the tools I needed to gain employment and know that ‘I am brilliant‘ nothing can stop me getting something if I really want it. In summing up the course, Trudy said “The course really was amazing and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is offered the chance to go on it.” Trudy is over the moon to have secured a job as a part time picker/packer in Morrisons.
