Before joining the course, Hasna had attended several other courses to get as much help as possible to help her find employment. Hasna decided to join the course after hearing about it from her Work Coach, hoping that it would improve her qualifications and provide opportunities to help get back into work. Gaining some much needed confidence from her time on the course, Hasna is now working as a Lounge Assistant at Newcastle Airport! Best of luck Hasna!
What were you doing before you started the programme?
I was unemployed and looking for work before starting the Returneeship with Release Potential. I had taken part in a number of courses previously and had just completed a hospitality programme. I was accepting all the help I could get to help me gain employment. I wanted everyone’s help. My only previous job had been on a short-term, part-time basis for Mothercare.
How did you find out about the training?
From my Work Coach, Philippa at Newcastle City Job Centre. She encouraged me to take the course explaining it could help me to gain employment.
Why did you decide to join?
I thought taking part in the course would improve my qualifications and provide an opportunity to learn new things that could help me get back to work.
What did you think of the training? How did it help you?
The training helped me lots. Before, I wasn’t very good at using a computer, but I became more confident during the course. I had a lot of help, particularly with CV writing and interview practice and technique.
Were there any barriers or obstacles you had to overcome?
I needed to build my confidence. I had only had one other job which had been short-term and part time for a local retailer while it was closing down.
What are you doing now?
I have started working for Swissport as a Lounge Assistant in the Aspire Lounge at Newcastle Airport. My role is varied, and I do a bit of everything, including bar work, preparing food, cooking, stock taking, cleaning and dealing with customers. I’m taking part in regular training. It’s very busy, and I never get bored!
What impact has the training had on your life?
The impact has been very positive, and my confidence is higher than it was previously. My customer service skills are improved, and I’m experiencing working with people from different backgrounds and cultures. I’m learning how to handle all sorts of situations.
What are your plans for the future?
I’m concentrating on doing a good job in my new role. Longer term, I would like to have my own catering business, something like a café or restaurant. I’m trying to build my knowledge and experience in my current role, to help me later on.
What would you say to someone who was thinking about doing the training but wasn’t sure?
Just go for it, I enjoyed every single day! Taking part in the training has changed my life for the better, and it could change yours too. If you want to go back to work, it will help you. I got help from head to toe! The course builds your confidence in a good learning environment, and it’s fun.
