After completing a degree in Health & Social Care, Tahseen found that she was interested in working within a Job Centre, so when her Work Coach informed her of the course she knew it would be the path to take! Tahseen is now working as a Special Educational Needs Support Worker, with a job within Universal Credit on the way! Congratulations on the progress, Tahseen, and we can’t wait to see what you do next!
What were you doing before you started the programme?
Before embarking on the Release Potential course, I was studying a Health & Social Care degree which had finished and I was then unemployed.
How did you find out about the training?
One of the Work Coaches Mohammed at my Job Centre told me about the learning opportunities available whilst I was attending an appointment.
Why did you decide to join?
I was originally interested in working within a Job Centre setting and when making enquiries I was told the Release Potential course content may help me with making this become a reality.
What did you think of the training? How did it help you?
The training was really good. My tutor, Jaleesa provided great insight with lots of useful information that I didn’t know about before. There was also other support given by additional tutors helping her. I was previously unaware of the Civil Service website, the specific jobs available, Behaviour Statements, Personal Statements and also the varying tests. Really everything that was covered was brand new to me. There were times when personal circumstances made me struggle with some of the deadlines and I was given so much support with this and encouragement to continue.
Were there any barriers or obstacles you had to overcome?
No, not really. I think having recently completed my degree had supported with home learning so I felt much more prepared.
What are you doing now?
I am a Special Educational Needs Support Worker role at the moment and will soon be starting as a Customer Service Advisor for Universal Credit via Teleperformance.
What impact has the training had on your life?
The training made me lots more confident in being able to apply for jobs. The new knowledge I had encouraged me to apply for more jobs. I definitely feel being on the course supported me with being successful. I really used the insight to help me redo my CV and also my personal statement. The mock interview process was fantastic. The extra detail, applying a revised approach and use of my strengths and weaknesses with a recording to support the conversation was brilliant. This definitely helped me feel more prepared, and is an approach I will continue to use.
What are your plans for the future?
To progress into my new role and see how far I can develop and grow.
What would you say to someone who was thinking about doing the training but wasn’t sure?
I would encourage anyone to definitely do the training. It’s a great confidence booster and an opportunity to learn more about yourself and your own skills. The approach around how to apply for work was the real added benefit which supported me so much.
