Jas Wilkhu – Civil Service Learner

Jas had previously applied for a role within the Civil Service, and was still interested in that kind of role. So when she found out about the training from her Job Centre she knew it would hep with her goals. Finding the course to help with her confidence, Jas has been able to secure a role as a Case Worker within the DWP! Congratulations, Jas!

What were you doing before you started the programme?
I had been unemployed for around 11 months prior to starting the programme. Previously a driver with a caring provider.

How did you find out about the training?
I found out about the training via the Job Centre after previously applying for a role within the Civil Service. I mentioned the type of role I was interested in and was signposted to Release Potential and provided with a supporting link to learn a little more.

Why did you decide to join?
The information that was shared with me aligned with the job I hoped to secure and I felt I would learn new skills, understand how to progress and that the course would open doors for opportunity.

What did you think of the training? How did it help you?
The training was brilliant. I managed to secure the role after being referred via my Tutor. I was well supported during and after the programme. Learnt loads of new approaches to application, statements and the tests associated with applying for a role. Still feel like I am learning and confident in making future applications.

Were there any barriers or obstacles you had to overcome?
Didn’t have any real barriers although struggle with absorbing information at times. Can be unfocussed at times but I received follow up videos to review separately to be able to get the information to sink in.

What are you doing now?
Case Worker – A/O – DWP

What impact has the training had on your life?
The impact has been really big. Confidence has been boosted – using video methods despite preferring a face to face approach. Secured a role due to engaging with the training and Release Potential.

What are your plans for the future?
Using the fixed term opportunity to learn new skills, understand the role further and link in with other opportunities.

What would you say to someone who was thinking about doing the training but wasn’t sure?
I would encourage them to give it a go. Already been referring the courses to others I come across.
