Modou Jobarteh – Civil Service Learner

Modou had previously tried applying for Civil Service positions but had been unsuccessful, so when their Work Coach sent a message about the training Modou knew it would be a good thing to do. Finding the course to be informative, Modou found that they gained a better understanding of the application process, and has been able to secure a job as a Planner within the Social Housing Sector! Congratulations, Modou!

What were you doing before you started the programme?
I was unemployed for a short period before I started the Release Potential training.

How did you find out about the training?
My Work Coach sent me a message via my Universal Credit journal to let me know about the Civil Service course that was available to me. I accepted immediately about joining the programme.

Why did you decide to join?
I was really interested in the content I could learn more about around Civil Service and Coaching and Mentoring. I’d been previously applying for Civil Service jobs and I hadn’t been successful so hoped this would help.

What did you think of the training? How did it help you?
The training was marvellous. The Tutors were fantastic and very well informed around the course content. I got a much better understanding of the application process as well as increased confidence in applying for jobs. I feel in a much better position now to deliver Coaching and Mentoring than ever before.

Were there any barriers or obstacles you had to overcome?
No barriers I needed to overcome.

What are you doing now?
I’m working as a Planner in the Social Housing Sector.

What impact has the training had on your life?
The impact is how well prepared I feel for landing a job within the Civil Service as well as receiving lots more opportunities for interviews with the Civil Service too. I feel like a much better, accomplished Job Seeker now, including the added knowledge of which roles are right for me, how I can do those roles and what the different strengths required are. I wish I‘d know about the course long before I did.

What are your plans for the future?
I would love to become an advocate for Release Potential and also possibly secure a role with them. I’d love a job to help someone secure the learning and skills I now have after the course, through the whole process.

What would you say to someone who was thinking about doing the training but wasn’t sure?
I’d say, you really have to go for it. Don’t miss out on the opportunity if you get it. I have already been sharing details with others to see if they can become involved. I’d happily be a spokesperson to encourage them.
