Nickeila had been out of work for a while when she decided it was time to start looking for a job in a setting she hadn’t done before. While talking to her Work Coach about what types of roles she had done previously, Nickeila was made aware of the Civil Service programme with Release Potential as a way to learn something new! Nickeila decided to join the programme, and using the training she received was able to secure a job in an area she hadn’t considered before, now working within the DWP!
Congratulations, Nickeila!
What were you doing before you started the programme?
I had stopped working around June 2024 and spent some time at home with my kids before starting to look for a new job in a different setting.
How did you find out about the training?
A Work Coach referred the training to me when we were chatting after enquiring about what I had been doing already. He asked if I’d be interested in learning something new.
Why did you decide to join?
I thought it would be something positive where I could secure some new skills, hopefully find a job and get an opportunity to access some positive benefits including flexible working to fit in with home life.
What did you think of the training? How did it help you?
The training was very informative and helpful. The material covered always had a reason behind why it was being shared and what is could be used for. It helped me secure a job in an area I hadn’t previously considered before. I was surprised to be successful and in a relatively short period of time.
Were there any barriers or obstacles you had to overcome?
No barriers to deal with.
What are you doing now?
I’m working in Service Delivery with DWP.
What impact has the training had on your life?
The training has prepared me for what to expect. Everything I learnt on the course has supported me now I have transitioned into my job. It feels more relatable in the working environment and very much makes sense. It’s also boosted my confidence in the job as I am now more comfortable talking about certain things I learnt about on the course.
What are your plans for the future?
I’d really like to progress in my role and make the most of the part time hours which give great work life balance.
What would you say to someone who was thinking about doing the training but wasn’t sure?
The best suggestion I could make would be to try the journey as I did, and see where it leads. You’ve nothing to lose.
