Paul had previously been working as a school bus driver before becoming unemployed, and after hearing about the course from his Work Coach knew it was something he should try. Needing a boost in confidence in his life, Paul found that the course was exactly what he needed, and with that newfound boost of confidence was able to secure work as a general handyman! We’re extremely proud of Paul and his progress, and can’t wait to see what he gets up to next!
What were you doing before you started the programme?
I had previously worked as a school bus driver then changes within the business meant I was unemployed.
How did you find out about the training?
Whilst visiting the Job Centre I was made aware of an opportunity to undertake a Returneeship Course with Release Potential.
Why did you decide to join?
My Work Coach told me all about the details of the course and the content of what it would cover and it sounded really interesting so I thought I’d give it a go.
What did you think of the training? How did it help you?
The training was absolutely brilliant. After being unemployed for quite some time, it helped build my confidence and really encouraged me to talk again as I hadn’t done much of this. The Tutor support was excellent. I feel like I learnt lots about different topics and things I’d never covered before. I also made some great friends who I am still in contact with.
Were there any barriers or obstacles you had to overcome?
Mainly just nervousness and lacking confidence around chatting to new people.
What are you doing now?
I’m working as a general handyman covering lots of things including gardening, house removals and general maintenance.
What impact has the training had on your life?
I feel much more prepared for future opportunities that may come my way and I am lots more confident with applying for roles, being interviewed etc than I have ever been.
What are your plans for the future?
I hope to get a long term role where I can secure a proper career.
What would you say to someone who was thinking about doing the training but wasn’t sure?
Do it. Definitely. It’s the best thing you can do to break your routine, meet some new people and learn new things.
