Christian Bell – Civil Service learner

When Christian came to the end of a temporary contract he’d gotten through an agency, he decided that he wanted to try something different and gain new experiences in the hope of it helping find a more permanent position. Christian has said that he found the training to be really informative and enjoyable, and with the support received during the course was able to find a position as a Case Manager with the DWP! Congratulations, Christian, and best of luck with your goals of progressing within the Civil Service!

What were you doing before you started the programme?
I was working at Jaguar Land Rover via an agency. My temporary contract had just ended and I became unemployed.

How did you find out about the training?
My Work Coach Kirsty, advised me of the course via the Job Centre so I put myself forward by giving Release Potential a call to learn more about what was involved.

Why did you decide to join?
The main reasons for joining were around the experience I could gain with learning about challenges around people in association with Coaching & Mentoring. In a workspace, I was keen to understand how to engage with others and how to support in a leadership capacity which I thought the course would really help me with.

What did you think of the training? How did it help you?
The training was really informative. I got lots of insight into things I didn’t know, which also brought some learning curves along the way. The course content shared insight into information you couldn’t source elsewhere. I got great experiences into doing my own research based on information shared. I am able to take the experiences and learning into my new job which is really positive.

Were there any barriers or obstacles you had to overcome?
No barriers. It was a really enjoyable experience and if I experienced any challenges along the way, then I got more than enough support from my Tutor.

What are you doing now?
I’ve found a job as a Case Manager with DWP.

What impact has the training had on your life?
I can tackle scenarios from different angles now with the learning I experienced. Certain work place requirements require new skills which I now have which is great. I feel much more confident with the added knowledge I possess.

What are your plans for the future?
I would love progression and steady growth within my career. I am excited to learn new things in my role and also understand what other opportunities are available in the future, once my Civil Service knowledge has increased.

What would you say to someone who was thinking about doing the training but wasn’t sure?
I think it’s always better to give it a go and say you tried, then not try at all. There’s so much help available that to not take the opportunity would be shooting yourself in the foot when the learning is readily available.
