Paulina had always wanted to work for the DWP but was unsure of the entry route or requirements. So when Paulina met the Release Potential team at a local jobs fair and found out about the course, she thought it would be a great way to achieve her ambition! During her time on the course, Paulina was able to improve her CV and build her confidence, as well as gain insight into what she needed to do, and has been able to secure a position as a Case Manager within the DWP! Congratuations, Paulina!
What were you doing before you started the programme?
I was actually working in Customer Service with BP but due to an illness that affected my driving I became unemeployed.
How did you find out about the training?
My Work Coach told me about a Jobs Fair at Walsall College. Release Potential were presenting at the fair and I spoke with Karl. He shared fabulous insight into what the course involved, what I could learn and the opportunities I will hear about. He sounded so enthusiastic about the course and I really believed if I did the course I could achieve great things.
Why did you decide to join?
I had always wanted to work for the DWP but was unsure of the entry route or what I would need to do to be successful. The course sounded like a great way to possibly achieve this.
What did you think of the training? How did it help you?
Prior to the course, my CV didn’t seem to be getting me the best opportunities. Once I started on the course, I realised what needed to be changed – both adding and removing information. My confidence really increased based on the professional information I received. The learning around behaviour and personal statements was excellent. I was so keen to apply for lots of jobs with my new found confidence and it helped me learn more and more. I seemed to be passing the tests as part of the process and was surprised at how successful I was. The course gave me so much insight into what I needed to do.
Were there any barriers or obstacles you had to overcome?
Before the course, I was really nervous about interviews. Once I had more understanding, I felt much better and my confidence soared.
What are you doing now?
I have a job with the DWP as a Case Manager.
What impact has the training had on your life?
My confidence has increased, I’ve learnt lots more about working together in teams to achieve a common goal and this has also helped in my normal life. I also secured a job in the place I wanted.
What are your plans for the future?
Having the job security I was after has given me the drive to make this a permanent role and I will use the opportunity to learn as much as possible and prove myself.
What would you say to someone who was thinking about doing the training but wasn’t sure?
Wherever you see a Release Potential sign, it’s a positive sign and you should approach them to hear about what they can support you with. I already recommend the courses when engaging with others. I’ve been on other courses before and the learning experience with Release Potential is so much better.
