K.H. – Coaching & Mentoring Learner

Having had a decade long career in the legal sector, when K found themself trying to find a new career, they found the process to have dramatically changed! Because of this change in how to search for jobs, K was unsure of what to do next, so when the opportunity to join the course with Release Potential was presented, they knew it would be a good programme to join to help towards future opportunities! K had a few barriers to overcome in their personal life during their time on the course but was able to overcome them, in some cases with a bit of extra support from Release Potential, and has been able to secure a position of employment! We’re extremely proud of K and wish them all the best!

What were you doing before you started the programme?
I was unemployed abut prior to this I had previously worked in the legal sector for 10 years. Things had changed quite dramatically since I had previously job searched.

How did you find out about the training?
Through engagement with the Job Centre, after enquiring about further training, my Work Coach Helen told me about the courses available with Release Potential.

Why did you decide to join?
I was unsure what I wanted to do next, but after hearing about the Coaching & Mentoring course available, I felt because it related to the Civil Service as well as covering elements of C&M, attending would help towards future opportunities and provide better chances of securing a role.

What did you think of the training? How did it help you?
The training was really helpful in sharing details about Civil Service processes and the way their approach transfers into different departments within Civil. I was surprised to get lots more insight into what my approach should be. It really exceeded my expectations.

Were there any barriers or obstacles you had to overcome?
I had some personal challenges based on being unemployed and the financial implications and impact of this. I had got to the stage where I needed to access foodbanks etc and some of the extra support I was requesting impacted on my days of learning but I was really well supported through this by Release Potential and my work coach.

What are you doing now?
I’m working as Auctions Secretary at an Auctioneers.

What impact has the training had on your life?
The main thing this has done has given structure to my day, it also really helped with my confidence which was previously affected from not working. Sharing information with others in the group, comparing experiences and taking time out to listen to each other really helped things. It made me realise I wasn’t alone.

What are your plans for the future?
I’m keen to carry on with where I am now. There’s also opportunity for progression if I want this, but further down the line.

What would you say to someone who was thinking about doing the training but wasn’t sure?
I would definitely recommend it. Even if Civil Service or Coaching & Mentoring isn’t exactly where you see yourself, the content of learning shared helps in job searching, life in general and can be utilised across lots of areas.
