What were you doing before you started the programme?
I was fresh out of University and job hunting but with limited success.
How did you find out about the training?
I was notified about the training that was available via my Work Coach Sheila whilst on a visit to the Job Centre. Karl from Release Potential was in the Job Centre at the time. He introduced himself and we got chatting about the course and what it would involve.
Why did you decide to join?
I knew I had nothing to lose and everything to benefit. Karl had been so engaging and informative when we’d spoken. Full of enthusiasm and charisma that made me want to know more.
What did you think of the training? How did it help you?
The training gave me lots more confidence in speaking with others. The skills was there under the surface, but unused. While I was participating in the learning I felt that it started to flow really naturally. All of the Tutors and support team on the course were excellent, they made the lessons interesting, intriguing and fun whilst still learning new things.
Were there any barriers or obstacles you had to overcome?
It was initially uncomfortable being around people. I had previously shied away from engaging with others as I was unsure what to say at times. This really changed during the course where I opened up.
What are you doing now?
I’m working in an IT support role in a jewellery factory.
What impact has the training had on your life?
The training has shown me how to be far more confident around people, especially inside of work. I would also now feel a lot more comfortable engaging with others outside of work too.
What are your plans for the future?
I would really love a Software Developer job longer term. For now I am happy doing my current role and getting the most from it.
What would you say to someone who was thinking about doing the training but wasn’t sure?
Do it? What do you have to lose?
