Janisha Reid – Civil Service Learner

Janisha had been looking for work after being unemployed for a while, and after hearing about the training via her Job Centre journal decided to join in hopes of hearing about new potential job opportunities! Finding that the training was informative and helpful, as well as allowing Janisha to regain routine and structure into her life, Janisha was able to secure a role within the HMRC! Congratulations, Janisha!

What were you doing before you started the programme?
I had been unemployed for a short while. I’d previously worked in an admin role.

How did you find out about the training?
I found out about the training via my job centre journal. I followed this up with Release Potential to understand how I could enrol on the course. When I’d heard about it previously I had other commitments which would have impacted on my learning programme and felt now the time was right.

Why did you decide to join?
I felt that by joining the course and hearing about potential new opportunities about securing a job meant it was a good time to participate.

What did you think of the training? How did it help you?
I really enjoyed the training. It was clear and concise. Also really informative and helpful. It enabled me to regain routine and structure back into my life. I loved the content which was broken down into sessions, quizzes and also time to yourself to complete the assignments. The masterclasses at the end of the day gave good insight into specific topics that support with Civil Service jobs and also other sectors. The detail was phenomenal and gave much greater insight and how important it was to be prepared.

Were there any barriers or obstacles you had to overcome?
Getting back into a routine was a bit of a challenge. I had lost a bit of confidence as had others and this was a great way to get this back. Previously a procrastinator, this needed to be overcome to ensure the course work was submitted.

What are you doing now?
Tax Advisor role with HMRC

What impact has the training had on your life?
Being on the training and receiving support from the Tutors which encouraged me to explore some challenges I was having with mental health. I listened to the advice, got some support and this really helped me with establishing why I was feeling the way I was.

What are your plans for the future?
For the future, I’d love to continue in the role that leads to a longer term role where I can explore my creativity.

What would you say to someone who was thinking about doing the training but wasn’t sure?
I would encourage them to at least give it a try. It’s really good, beneficial and they will learn a lot about themselves as well as gaining new information. I’d 100% recommend it.
