Speaking to Olivia over the phone it is clear she is full of positivity even though the pandemic this year has brought with it numerous changes and challenges. After finishing studying English and Film Studies at university, Olivia had found a job as a receptionist at the headquarters of AA. Unfortunately, due to the impacts of the Coronavirus lockdown, Olivia found herself unemployed.
Olivia wasn`t out of work for long and as she states she wasn`t keen on “not doing anything” and quickly started searching “to start something worthwhile”. Her local job centre gave her information on a variety of courses that were on offer and Olivia jumped at the opportunity to get stuck into a course and start learning again. She opted to enrol onto the level 2 diploma in IT user skills and principles in marketing that was being offered by Release Potential. This was an easy decision to make as throughout her time at university she had developed an interest in the digital aspect of film making and she felt she needed some more specialised qualifications.
Naturally, Olivia felt nervous on the first day of the course but that was quickly overcome as she got to know the people she started working with and her friendly nature came through. Olivia particularly enjoyed learning new things and was positively surprised by how much focus was also put on the social aspect and she loved getting to know and meet different people and thrived on her group work.
Olivia was pleased to acquire “a lot of new skills, especially the website designing” and she is now using the knowledge she gained and is creating a website for her employer. She happily commented “it all just came at the right time”. In fact, Olivia is now content in her new job working for an investigation company and she is also busy working on a website. She hopes she will be able to continue using these new skills she has gained.
Looking towards the future Olivia wants to delve deeper into film marketing and she says she would like to try and eventually find a job in that area.
She also wants to encourage people to “go for it” she even admits she was a little sceptical at first but wants to express that “… (the course) is so useful and very encouraging, it helps you in so many ways and it is not just about the qualification. It’s such an all-round positive experience”.
