Mandy went straight into the care sector when she left school where she remained for several years. She had her family and resumed work again but this time in the retail sector. As time went on she didn’t find the work challenging enough and wanted something to push her more. After fifteen years away from care she decided she wanted to return to the sector.

Amanda N at Cramlington House, one of two care homes operated by Craig Healthcare Ltd.

Mandy has now been working at Cramlington House for approximately four and a half years, and during this time has completed her Intermediate and Advanced Apprenticeships in Health and Social Care with Release Potential. With the help of her new qualifications she was able to step up to the position Senior Care Assistant at Cramlington House.

As a Senior Care Assistant Mandy has responsibility for a team of twelve staff who care for twenty seven residents, and felt she wanted to study something different that would help her with supervisory responsibilities.

With the support of Home Manager, Janice Wilkinson, Mandy has successfully achieved her Intermediate Apprenticeship in Team Leading. Mandy said the course helped her think about how she works with her team and about doing some things differently than she would have previously.

Mandy feels the Apprenticeships she has studied have each helped her develop skills and significantly build her confidence, particularly having returned to the sector after such a long time.
